CH. 37 AȘ-ṢĀFFĀT 125. When he said to his people, 'Will you not be God-fearing? 126. Do you call on Ba‘l, and forsake the Best of creators, 3347 127. Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of old?' 128. But they treated him as a liar, and they will surely be brought before God to render an account of their deeds; 129. Except the chosen servants of Allah. 130. And We left for him a good name among the succeeding generations— 131. Peace be on Elias and his people!3348 132. Thus indeed do We reward those who do good. 133. Surely, he was one of Our believing servants. 3347. Important Words: PT. 23 إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِةٍ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ اتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ الْخَالِقِينَ اللهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ أَبَا بِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ فَكَذَّبُوْهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ سَلامُ عَلَى إِلْ يَاسِينَ إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (ba 'ala) بعل is derived from بعلاً which means, he married or he took a wife; or he became a husband. means, husband; wife (✓ like means both a husband and a wife, more generally a husband); lord, master or owner of a thing; a chief; a family whose maintenance is incumbent upon a person (Lane & Aqrab). Commentary: Ba'l was the name of an idol 2702 belonging to the people of the Prophet Elijah. These people worshipped the sun. Ba'l may also stand for the sun-god which belonged to the people of a town in Syria now called Baalbek (Lane). 3348. Commentary: of (Ilyasin) may be another form (Ilyas) as (95:3) is that of it الياس or being plural of ;(23:21) سيناء may mean Elijah and his people.
