عَذَابِيٓ أُصِيبُ بِهِۦ مَنۡ أَشَآءُ ۖ وَرَحۡمَتِي وَسِعَتۡ كُلَّ شَيۡءٖ ۚ

‘I will inflict My punishment on whom I will; but My mercy encompasses all things;

تَكَادُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُ يَتَفَطَّرۡنَ مِنۡهُ وَتَنشَقُّ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَتَخِرُّ ٱلۡجِبَالُ هَدًّا

The heavens might well-nigh burst thereat, and the earth cleave asunder, and the mountains fall down in pieces,

أَن دَعَوۡاْ لِلرَّحۡمَٰنِ وَلَدٗا

Because they ascribe a son to the Gracious God.

فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ

So woe to those who pray,

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ

But are unmindful of their Prayer.

يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفۡسُ ٱلۡمُطۡمَئِنَّةُ

And thou, O soul at peace!

ٱرۡجِعِيٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةٗ مَّرۡضِيَّةٗ

Return to thy Lord well pleased with Him and He well pleased with thee.

فَٱدۡخُلِي فِي عِبَٰدِي

So enter thou among My chosen servants,

وَٱدۡخُلِي جَنَّتِي

And enter thou My Garden.

رَّبَّنَآ إِنَّنَا سَمِعۡنَا مُنَادِيٗا يُنَادِي لِلۡإِيمَٰنِ أَنۡ ءَامِنُواْ بِرَبِّكُمۡ فَـَٔامَنَّا ۚ رَبَّنَا فَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَكَفِّرۡ عَنَّا سَيِّـَٔاتِنَا وَتَوَفَّنَا مَعَ ٱلۡأَبۡرَارِ

“Our Lord, we have heard a Crier calling us unto faith, ‘Believe ye in your Lord,’ and we have believed. Our Lord, forgive us, therefore, our errors and remove from us our evils, and in death number us with the righteous.

رَبَّنَا وَءَاتِنَا مَا وَعَدتَّنَا عَلَىٰ رُسُلِكَ وَلَا تُخۡزِنَا يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ ۖ إِنَّكَ لَا تُخۡلِفُ ٱلۡمِيعَادَ

“Our Lord, give us what Thou hast promised to us through Thy Messengers; and disgrace us not on the Day of Resurrection. Surely, Thou breakest not Thy promise.”

وَنُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِ

the trumpet will be blown.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَذَرُواْ مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ ٱلرِّبَوٰٓاْ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ

O ye who believe! fear Allah and relinquish what remains of interest, if you are believers.

فَإِن لَّمۡ تَفۡعَلُواْ فَأۡذَنُواْ بِحَرۡبٖ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ ۖ

But if you do it not, then beware of war from Allah and His Messenger;

لَا يُظۡهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيۡبِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا

He reveals not His secrets to any one,

إِلَّا مَنِ ٱرۡتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولٖ

Except to him whom He chooses, namely a Messenger of His.

إِنَّ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ فِي ٱلدَّرۡكِ ٱلۡأَسۡفَلِ مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ

The hypocrites shall surely be in the lowest depth of the Fire;

الٓمٓ

Alif Lam Mim.

غُلِبَتِ ٱلرُّومُ

The Romans have been defeated,

يَٰحَسۡرَةً عَلَى ٱلۡعِبَادِ ۚ مَا يَأۡتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ

Alas for My servants! there comes not a Messenger to them but they mock at him.

إِنَّكَ لَا تَهۡدِي مَنۡ أَحۡبَبۡتَ

Surely thou wilt not be able to guide all whom thou lovest

إِنۡ هِيَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنۡيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحۡيَا

‘There is no life other than our present life; we were lifeless and now we live,

وَمَا مُحَمَّدٌ إِلَّا رَسُولٞ قَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِن قَبۡلِهِ ٱلرُّسُلُ ۚ

And Muhammad is only a Messenger. Verily, all Messengers have passed away before him.

قَد تَّبَيَّنَ ٱلرُّشۡدُ مِنَ ٱلۡغَيِّ ۚ

Surely, right has become distinct from wrong;

إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلۡعُسۡرِ يُسۡرٗا

Aye, surely there is ease after hardship.

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجۡعِ

By the cloud which gives rain after rain,

وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدۡعِ

And by the earth which opens out with herbage,

بَلَىٰ ۚ مَنۡ أَسۡلَمَ وَجۡهَهُۥ لِلَّهِ

Nay, whoever submits himself completely to Allah

كُلّٞ يَعۡمَلُ عَلَىٰ شَاكِلَتِهِۦ

‘Everyone acts according to his own way

أَيَّدَهُم بِرُوحٖ مِّنۡهُ ۖ

whom He has strengthened with inspiration from Himself.

كَانَ أَبُوهُمَا صَٰلِحٗا

their father had been a righteous man,

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَنِ ٱللَّغۡوِ مُعۡرِضُونَ

And who shun all that which is vain,

وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ مَخۡرَجٗا

And he who fears Allah — He will make for him a way out,

وَمَآ أُهِلَّ بِهِۦ لِغَيۡرِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ

and that on which the name of any other than Allah has been invoked

أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡفِيلِ

Hast thou not seen how thy Lord dealt with the People of the Elephant?

لَن تَجِدَ لِسُنَّةِ ٱللَّهِ تَبۡدِيلٗا

thou shalt not find any change in the law of Allah.

إِنَّمَآ أَمۡوَٰلُكُمۡ وَأَوۡلَٰدُكُمۡ فِتۡنَةٞ ۚ

Verily, your wealth and your children are a trial;

إِنَّكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ حَصَبُ جَهَنَّمَ

‘Surely, you and that which you worship beside Allah are the fuel of Hell.

وَإِذَا لَقُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ قَالُوٓاْ ءَامَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ شَيَٰطِينِهِمۡ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا مَعَكُمۡ إِنَّمَا نَحۡنُ مُسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ

And when they meet those who believe, they say: ‘We believe;’ but when they are alone with their ringleaders, they say: ‘We are certainly with you; we are only mocking.’

وَهُوَ مَعَكُمۡ أَيۡنَ مَا كُنتُمۡ ۚ

And He is with you wheresoever you may be.

وَتَرَى ٱلنَّاسَ سُكَٰرَىٰ وَمَا هُم بِسُكَٰرَىٰ

thou shalt see men as drunken while they will not be drunken

لَوۡ كُنَّا نَسۡمَعُ أَوۡ نَعۡقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِيٓ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ

‘If we had but listened or possessed sense, we should not have been among the inmates of the blazing Fire.’

لِمَ تَقُولُونَ مَا لَا تَفۡعَلُونَ

Why do you say what you do not do?

كَبُرَ مَقۡتًا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ أَن تَقُولُواْ مَا لَا تَفۡعَلُونَ

Most hateful is it in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do.

إِن مِّنۡ أُمَّةٍ إِلَّا خَلَا فِيهَا نَذِيرٞ

there is no people to whom a Warner has not been sent.

إِنَّهُۥ مَن يَأۡتِ رَبَّهُۥ مُجۡرِمٗا فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ جَهَنَّمَ

Verily, he who comes to his Lord a sinner — for him is Hell;

أَن لَّيۡسَ لِلۡإِنسَٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ

that man will have nothing but what he strives for;

خُلِقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ ضَعِيفٗا

for man has been created weak.

إِمَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِي نَعِدُهُمۡ أَوۡ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ

if We show thee in thy lifetime the fulfilment of some of the things with which We have threatened them, thou wilt know it; or if We cause thee to die before that

إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ رَبُّكَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ فَعَّالٞ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ

excepting what thy Lord may will. Surely, thy Lord does bring about what He pleases.

يَمۡحُواْ ٱللَّهُ مَا يَشَآءُ

Allah effaces what He wills

وَلَنَبۡلُوَنَّكُم بِشَيۡءٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡخَوۡفِ وَٱلۡجُوعِ وَنَقۡصٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَمۡوَٰلِ وَٱلۡأَنفُسِ وَٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ ۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ

And We will try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and lives, and fruits; but give glad tidings to the patient,

ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَٰبَتۡهُم مُّصِيبَةٞ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيۡهِ رَٰجِعُونَ

Who, when a misfortune overtakes them, say, ‘Surely, to Allah we belong and to Him shall we return.’

وَلَا تَقۡفُ مَا لَيۡسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلۡمٌ ۚ

And follow not that of which thou hast no knowledge.

وَلَا تُحَمِّلۡنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِۦ ۖ

Our Lord, burden us not with what we have not the strength to bear;

قُلۡ سُبۡحَانَ رَبِّي هَلۡ كُنتُ إِلَّا بَشَرٗا رَّسُولٗا

Say, ‘Holy is my Lord! I am not but a man sent as a Messenger.’

الٓمٓ

Alif Lam Mim.

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبُ لَا رَيۡبَۛ فِيهِۛ هُدٗى لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ

This is a perfect Book; there is no doubt in it; it is a guidance for the righteous,

فَيُمۡسِكُ ٱلَّتِي قَضَىٰ عَلَيۡهَا ٱلۡمَوۡتَ

And then He retains those against which He has decreed death.

وَإِذَا ٱلنُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتۡ

And when people are brought together,

هُمۡ لِلزَّكَوٰةِ فَٰعِلُونَ

who are active in paying the Zakat,

قُلۡ كَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ شَهِيدَۢا بَيۡنِي وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ وَمَنۡ عِندَهُۥ عِلۡمُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ

Say, ‘Sufficient is Allah as a Witness between me and you, and so is he who possesses knowledge of the Book.’

قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ

Surely, success does come to the believers,

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ فِي صَلَاتِهِمۡ خَٰشِعُونَ

Who are humble in their Prayers,

عَنِ ٱللَّغۡوِ مُعۡرِضُونَ

who shun all that which is vain,

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ لِفُرُوجِهِمۡ حَٰفِظُونَ

And who guard their chastity —

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ لِأَمَٰنَٰتِهِمۡ وَعَهۡدِهِمۡ رَٰعُونَ

And who are watchful of their trusts and their covenants,

وَذَٰلِكُمۡ ظَنُّكُمُ ٱلَّذِي ظَنَنتُم بِرَبِّكُمۡ أَرۡدَىٰكُمۡ فَأَصۡبَحۡتُم مِّنَ ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ

‘And that thought of yours, which you entertained concerning your Lord, has ruined you. So now you have become of those who are lost.’

لَا يَخَافُونَ لَوۡمَةَ لَآئِمٖ ۚ

Will not fear the reproach of a faultfinder

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَواْ وَّٱلَّذِينَ هُم مُّحۡسِنُونَ

Verily, Allah is with those who are righteous and those who do good.

يَفۡعَلُونَ مَا يُؤۡمَرُونَ

do as they are commanded.

إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفۡلِحُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ

Surely, the unjust shall not prosper.

أُذِنَ لِلَّذِينَ يُقَٰتَلُونَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ ظُلِمُواْ ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ نَصۡرِهِمۡ لَقَدِيرٌ

Permission to fight is given to those against whom war is made, because they have been wronged — and Allah indeed has power to help them —

فِيهَا تَحۡيَوۡنَ

‘Therein shall you live,

مَّا يَلۡفِظُ مِن قَوۡلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيۡهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٞ

He utters not a word but there is by him a guardian angel ready to record it.

وَٱلضُّحَىٰ

By the growing brightness of the forenoon,

وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا سَجَىٰ

And by the night when it becomes still,

مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ

Thy Lord has not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased with thee.

جَاعِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوكَ فَوۡقَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ ۖ

will place those who follow thee above those who disbelieve, until the Day of Resurrection

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَلَىٰ صَلَوَٰتِهِمۡ يُحَافِظُونَ

And who are strict in the observance of their Prayers.

وَمَا خَلَقۡتُ ٱلۡجِنَّ وَٱلۡإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُونِ

And I have not created the Jinn and the men but that they may worship Me.

إِنَّ ٱلنَّفۡسَ لَأَمَّارَةُۢ بِٱلسُّوٓءِ

the soul is surely prone to enjoin evil

فَمِنۡهُمۡ ظَالِمٞ لِّنَفۡسِهِۦ وَمِنۡهُم مُّقۡتَصِدٞ وَمِنۡهُمۡ سَابِقُۢ بِٱلۡخَيۡرَٰتِ

And of them are some who are breaking down their own selves by suppressing their desires, and of them are some who keep to the right course, and of them are some who excel others in acts of goodness by Allah’s leave.

وَفِي ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزۡقُكُمۡ وَمَا تُوعَدُونَ

And in heaven is your sustenance, and also that which you are promised.

فَوَرَبِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِنَّهُۥ لَحَقّٞ مِّثۡلَ مَآ أَنَّكُمۡ تَنطِقُونَ

And by the Lord of the heaven and the earth, it is certainly the truth, even as it is true that you speak.

مَا يَكُونُ مِن نَّجۡوَىٰ ثَلَٰثَةٍ إِلَّا هُوَ رَابِعُهُمۡ

There is no secret counsel of three, but He is their fourth,

إِذَا جَآءَ نَصۡرُ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡفَتۡحُ

When the help of Allah comes, and the victory,

وَرَأَيۡتَ ٱلنَّاسَ يَدۡخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ ٱللَّهِ أَفۡوَاجٗا

And thou seest men entering the religion of Allah in troops,

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوۡمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُواْ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمۡ ۗ

Surely, Allah changes not the condition of a people until they change that which is in their hearts.

مُّحَمَّدٞ رَّسُولُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ أَشِدَّآءُ عَلَى ٱلۡكُفَّارِ رُحَمَآءُ بَيۡنَهُمۡ ۖ

Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. And those who are with him are hard against the disbelievers, tender among themselves.

مَن يَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسۡبُهُۥٓ

he who puts his trust in Allah — He is sufficient for him.

لَّا تُلۡهِيهِمۡ تِجَٰرَةٞ وَلَا بَيۡعٌ عَن ذِكۡرِ

neither merchandise nor traffic diverts from the remembrance

لَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٞ وِزۡرَ أُخۡرَىٰ ۚ

nor does any bearer of burden bear the burden of another.

أَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضۡحَكَ وَأَبۡكَىٰ

that it is He Who makes men laugh and makes them weep;

جَزَـٰٓؤُاْ سَيِّئَةٖ سَيِّئَةٞ مِّثۡلُهَا ۖ فَمَنۡ عَفَا وَأَصۡلَحَ فَأَجۡرُهُۥ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ

the recompense of an injury is an injury the like thereof; but whoso forgives and his act brings about reformation, his reward is with Allah.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأۡمُرُ بِٱلۡعَدۡلِ وَٱلۡإِحۡسَٰنِ وَإِيتَآيِٕ ذِي ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ

Verily, Allah enjoins justice, and the doing of good to others; and giving like kindred

مَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا

who is more unjust than he who forges a lie against Allah

ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَٰهُ خَلۡقًا ءَاخَرَ

then We developed it into another creation

مَٰلِكِ يَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ

Master of the Day of Judgment.

ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds,

وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَٰكَ إِلَّا رَحۡمَةٗ لِّلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

And We have sent thee not but as a mercy for all peoples.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنِ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

Allah is surely independent of all creatures.

فَمَنِ ٱضۡطُرَّ غَيۡرَ بَاغٖ وَلَا عَادٖ فَلَآ إِثۡمَ عَلَيۡهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٌ

But he who is driven by necessity, being neither disobedient nor exceeding the limit, it shall be no sin for him. Surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.

رَّبُّكُمۡ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا فِي نُفُوسِكُمۡ ۚ إِن تَكُونُواْ صَٰلِحِينَ فَإِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِلۡأَوَّـٰبِينَ غَفُورٗا

Your Lord knows best what is in your minds; if you are righteous, then surely, He is Most Forgiving to those who turn to Him again and again.

عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمۡ أَن يُكَفِّرَ عَنكُمۡ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمۡ

It may be that your Lord will remove the evil consequences of your deeds

ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ عَلَى ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱسۡتَوَىٰ

He is the Gracious God Who has settled Himself on the Throne.

مَا يَكُونُ مِن نَّجۡوَىٰ ثَلَٰثَةٍ إِلَّا هُوَ رَابِعُهُمۡ وَلَا خَمۡسَةٍ إِلَّا هُوَ سَادِسُهُمۡ

There is no secret counsel of three, but He is their fourth, nor of five, but He is their sixth

يَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ فُرۡقَانٗا

He will grant you a distinction

نَزَعۡنَا مَا فِي صُدُورِهِم مِّنۡ غِلٍّ إِخۡوَٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٖ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ

We shall remove whatever of rancour may be in their breasts so that they will become as brothers seated on thrones, facing one another.

غَيۡرِ ٱلۡمَغۡضُوبِ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

those who have not incurred Thy displeasure, and those who have not gone astray.

وَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلنَّفۡسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ

And I do call to witness the self-accusing soul, that the Day of Judgment is a certainty.

وَإِذَا ٱلۡعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتۡ

And when the she-camels, tenmonth pregnant, are abandoned,

وَلَوۡ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيۡنَا بَعۡضَ ٱلۡأَقَاوِيلِ

And if he had forged and attributed any sayings to Us,

لَأَخَذۡنَا مِنۡهُ بِٱلۡيَمِينِ

We would surely have seized him by the right hand,

ثُمَّ لَقَطَعۡنَا مِنۡهُ ٱلۡوَتِينَ

And then surely We would have severed his life-artery,

قُلۡ إِنَّمَا ٱلۡأٓيَٰتُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ

Say, ‘Surely, Signs are with Allah.

وَبَشِّرِ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَٰتِ أَنَّ لَهُمۡ جَنَّـٰتٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ

And give glad tidings to those who believe and do good works, that for them are Gardens beneath which flow streams.

غَيۡرِ ٱلۡمَغۡضُوبِ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

those who have not incurred Thy displeasure, and those who have not gone astray.

ٱهۡدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ

Guide us in the right path —

صِرَٰطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ

The path of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy blessings.

وَلَنَبۡلُوَنَّكُم بِشَيۡءٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡخَوۡفِ وَٱلۡجُوعِ وَنَقۡصٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَمۡوَٰلِ وَٱلۡأَنفُسِ وَٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ ۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ

ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَٰبَتۡهُم مُّصِيبَةٞ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيۡهِ رَٰجِعُونَ

Who, when a misfortune overtakes them, say, ‘Surely, to Allah we belong and to Him shall we return.’

أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ صَلَوَٰتٞ مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡ وَرَحۡمَةٞ ۖ وَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُهۡتَدُونَ

It is these on whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy, and it is these who are rightly guided.

فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّيۡتَنِي كُنتَ أَنتَ ٱلرَّقِيبَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ۚ

but since Thou didst cause me to die, Thou hast been the Watcher over them;

مِنۡهُم مَّن قَصَصۡنَا عَلَيۡكَ وَمِنۡهُم مَّن لَّمۡ نَقۡصُصۡ عَلَيۡكَ ۗ

Of them are some whom We have mentioned to thee, and of them there are some whom We have not mentioned to thee;

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّ جَٰهِدِ ٱلۡكُفَّارَ وَٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱغۡلُظۡ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ۚ

O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites. And be severe to them.

كَذَٰلِكَ كُنتُم مِّن قَبۡلُ فَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ

Such were you before this, but Allah conferred His special favour on you;

لَيۡسَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ جُنَاحٌ أَن تَأۡكُلُواْ جَمِيعًا أَوۡ أَشۡتَاتٗا ۚ

There is no harm for you whether you eat together or separately.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ عَلَيۡكُمۡ أَنفُسَكُمۡ ۖ

O ye who believe! be heedful of your own selves.

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نَزَّلۡنَا ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَٰفِظُونَ

Verily, We Ourself have sent down this Exhortation, and most surely We will be its Guardian.

رِجَالٞ لَّا تُلۡهِيهِمۡ تِجَٰرَةٞ وَلَا بَيۡعٌ عَن ذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِ

By men, whom neither merchandise nor traffic diverts from the remembrance of Allah

۞إِنَّ قَٰرُونَ كَانَ مِن قَوۡمِ مُوسَىٰ فَبَغَىٰ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ۖ وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلۡكُنُوزِ مَآ إِنَّ مَفَاتِحَهُۥ لَتَنُوٓأُ بِٱلۡعُصۡبَةِ أُوْلِي ٱلۡقُوَّةِ إِذۡ قَالَ لَهُۥ قَوۡمُهُۥ لَا تَفۡرَحۡ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلۡفَرِحِينَ

Verily, Korah was of the people of Moses, but he behaved arrogantly towards them. And We had given him of treasures so much that his hoardings would have weighed down a party of strong men. When his people said to him, ‘Exult not, surely Allah loves not those who exult.

امَنتُ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِيٓ ءَامَنَتۡ بِهِۦ بَنُوٓاْ إِسۡرَـٰٓءِيلَ

‘I believe that there is no God but He in Whom the children of Israel believe

لَّا يَنۡهَىٰكُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَمۡ يُقَٰتِلُوكُمۡ فِي ٱلدِّينِ وَلَمۡ يُخۡرِجُوكُم مِّن دِيَٰرِكُمۡ أَن تَبَرُّوهُمۡ وَتُقۡسِطُوٓاْ إِلَيۡهِمۡ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُقۡسِطِينَ

Allah forbids you not, respecting those who have not fought against you on account of your religion, and who have not driven you forth from your homes, that you be kind to them and act equitably towards them; surely Allah loves those who are equitable.

طَهِّرَا بَيۡتِيَ لِلطَّآئِفِينَ

‘Purify My House for those who perform the circuit

فَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيۡرٗا يَرَهُۥ

Then whoso does an atom’s weight of good will see it,

وَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٖ شَرّٗا يَرَهُۥ

And whoso does an atom’s weight of evil will also see it.

فَمَاذَا بَعۡدَ ٱلۡحَقِّ إِلَّا ٱلضَّلَٰلُ ۖ

So what would you have after discarding the truth except error?

لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمۡ جَزَآءٗ وَلَا شُكُورًا

We desire no reward nor thanks from you.

وَتَرَكۡنَا بَعۡضَهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَمُوجُ فِي بَعۡضٖ ۖ وَنُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِ فَجَمَعۡنَٰهُمۡ جَمۡعٗا

And on that day We shall leave some of them to surge against others, and the trumpet will be blown. Then shall We gather them all together.

وَعَرَضۡنَا جَهَنَّمَ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡكَٰفِرِينَ عَرۡضًا

And on that day We shall present Hell, face to face, to the disbelievers —

يَقۡدُمُ قَوۡمَهُۥ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ فَأَوۡرَدَهُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ۖ

He will go before his people on the Day of Resurrection and will bring them down into the Fire, even as cattle are brought to a wateringplace

أَصۡلِحۡ لِي فِي ذُرِّيَّتِيٓ ۖ

And make my seed righteous for me.

إِذَا ٱلۡعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتۡ

when the she-camels, tenmonth pregnant, are abandoned,

كٓهيعٓصٓ

Kaf Ha Ya ‘Ain Sad.

فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّيۡتَنِي

but since Thou didst cause me to die,

إِنِّي مُتَوَفِّيكَ

I will cause thee to die a natural death

أَوۡ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ

or if We cause thee to die before that,

مَالِ هَٰذَا ٱلرَّسُولِ يَأۡكُلُ ٱلطَّعَامَ وَيَمۡشِي فِي ٱلۡأَسۡوَاقِ

‘What is the matter with this Messenger that he eats food, and walks in the streets?

ظَهَرَ ٱلۡفَسَادُ فِي ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ

Corruption has appeared on land and sea

مَن كَانَ فِي هَٰذِهِۦٓ أَعۡمَىٰ فَهُوَ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ أَعۡمَىٰ وَأَضَلُّ سَبِيلٗا

whoso is blind in this world will be blind in the Hereafter, and even more astray from the way.

مَا كَانَ لِنَبِيٍّ أَن يَكُونَ لَهُۥٓ أَسۡرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ يُثۡخِنَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ

It does not behove a Prophet that he should have captives until he engages in regular fighting in the land.

فَمِنۡهُمۡ شَقِيّٞ وَسَعِيدٞ

Then some of them will prove unfortunate and others fortunate.

فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٞ فَزَادَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مَرَضٗا ۖ

In their hearts was a disease, and Allah has increased their disease to them;

لَئِن شَكَرۡتُمۡ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمۡ ۖ وَلَئِن كَفَرۡتُمۡ إِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدٞ

‘If you are grateful, I will, surely, bestow more favours on you; but if you are ungrateful, then know that My punishment is severe indeed.’

زُلۡزِلُواْ زِلۡزَالٗا شَدِيدٗا

they were shaken with a violent shaking.

إِنِّي جَاعِلٞ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ خَلِيفَةٗ ۖ

‘I am about to place a vicegerent in the earth

قُلۡ هَٰذِهِۦ سَبِيلِيٓ أَدۡعُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ عَلَىٰ بَصِيرَةٍ أَنَا۠ وَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَنِي ۖ

Say, ‘This is my way: I call unto Allah on sure knowledge, I and those who follow me.

فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ

So woe to those who pray,

وَإِذۡ كَفَفۡتُ بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَـٰٓءِيلَ عَنكَ

when I restrained the children of Israel from putting thee to death

بَل رَّفَعَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَيۡهِ ۚ

On the contrary, Allah exalted him to Himself.

وَمَا قَتَلُوهُ يَقِينَۢا

and they did not convert this conjecture into a certainty;

ٱقۡتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ

The Hour has drawn nigh

قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا

He indeed truly prospers who purifies it,

وَقَدۡ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا

And he who corrupts it is ruined.

قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ

Verily, he truly prospers who purifies himself,

لِأُنذِرَكُم بِهِۦ وَمَنۢ بَلَغَ ۚ

so that with it I may warn you and whomsoever it reaches.

قَدۡ خَابَ مَنِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ

surely, he who forges a lie shall perish.’

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَٰتِ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمۡ خَيۡرُ ٱلۡبَرِيَّةِ

Verily, those who believe and do good works — they are the best of creatures.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ تُوبُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوۡبَةٗ نَّصُوحًا

O ye who believe! turn to Allah in sincere repentance.

مَّا عَلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ إِلَّا ٱلۡبَلَٰغُ ۗ

On the Messenger lies only the conveying of the Message

ٱهۡدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ

Guide us in the right path —

إِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ

‘Allah accepts only from the righteous.

جَزَـٰٓؤُاْ سَيِّئَةٖ سَيِّئَةٞ مِّثۡلُهَا

the recompense of an injury is an injury the like thereof

وَهُم بَدَءُوكُمۡ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ۚ

and they were the first to commence hostilities against you?

وَكَذَٰلِكَ جَعَلۡنَٰكُمۡ أُمَّةٗ وَسَطٗا لِّتَكُونُواْ شُهَدَآءَ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ

And thus have We made you an exalted nation, that you may be guardians over men,

مَّثَلُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِي وُعِدَ ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَ ۖ

A description of the Garden promised to the righteous:

ءَامَنتُ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِيٓ ءَامَنَتۡ بِهِۦ بَنُوٓاْ إِسۡرَـٰٓءِيلَ

‘I believe that there is no God but He in Whom the children of Israel believe

ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلٗا لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱمۡرَأَتَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ

Allah sets forth for those who believe the example of the wife of Pharaoh

إِنَّ مَثَلَ عِيسَىٰ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ ءَادَمَ ۖ

Surely, the case of Jesus with Allah is like the case of Adam.

وَٱلَّذِينَ جَٰهَدُواْ فِينَا لَنَهۡدِيَنَّهُمۡ سُبُلَنَا ۚ

And as for those who strive in Our path — We will surely guide them in Our ways.

خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفۡسٖ وَٰحِدَةٖ وَخَلَقَ مِنۡهَا زَوۡجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنۡهُمَا رِجَالٗا كَثِيرٗا وَنِسَآءٗ ۚ

Who created you from a single soul and created therefrom its mate, and from them twain spread many men and women

ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَلَمۡ يَلۡبِسُوٓاْ إِيمَٰنَهُم بِظُلۡمٍ

Those who believe and mix not up their belief with injustice

يَكۡتُمُ إِيمَٰنَهُۥٓ

who concealed his faith

لَآ إِلَىٰ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَلَآ إِلَىٰ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ۚ

belonging neither to these nor to those

أَنۢبِـُٔونِي بِأَسۡمَآءِ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

‘Tell Me the names of these,

لِمَا يُحۡيِيكُمۡ ۖ

that he may give you life,

نَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَيۡهِ مِنۡ حَبۡلِ ٱلۡوَرِيدِ

We are nearer to him than even his jugular vein.

غُلِبَتِ ٱلرُّومُ

The Romans have been defeated,

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلتَّوَّـٰبِينَ وَيُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُتَطَهِّرِينَ

Allah loves those who turn to Him and loves those who keep themselves clean.

أَمَّن يُجِيبُ ٱلۡمُضۡطَرَّ إِذَا دَعَاهُ وَيَكۡشِفُ ٱلسُّوٓءَ

Or, Who answers the distressed person when he calls upon Him, and removes the evil,

وَفَضَّلَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمُجَٰهِدِينَ عَلَى ٱلۡقَٰعِدِينَ أَجۡرًا عَظِيمٗا

And Allah has exalted those who strive above those who sit still, by a great reward,

وَلِمَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ جَنَّتَانِ

But for him who fears to stand before his Lord there are two Gardens —

قُلۡ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِنِّي رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ إِلَيۡكُمۡ جَمِيعًا

Say, ‘O mankind! truly I am a Messenger to you all from Allah

بَلَىٰ ۚ مَنۡ أَسۡلَمَ وَجۡهَهُۥ لِلَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحۡسِنٞ

Nay, whoever submits himself completely to Allah, and is the doer of good

خَيۡرُ ٱلۡمَٰكِرِينَ

the Best of planners.

وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا ٱلرُّءۡيَا ٱلَّتِيٓ أَرَيۡنَٰكَ

And We made not the vision which We showed thee (but as a trial for men)

تِلۡكَ أُمَّةٞ قَدۡ خَلَتۡ ۖ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتۡ وَلَكُم مَّا كَسَبۡتُمۡ ۖ

Those are a people that have passed away; for them is what they earned, and for you shall be what you earn;

مَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمۡ وَأَنتَ فِيهِمۡ ۚ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمۡ وَهُمۡ يَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ

Allah would not punish them while thou wast among them, and Allah would not punish them while they sought forgiveness.

رَّفَعَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَيۡهِ ۚ

Allah exalted him to Himself.

قُلۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ فَٱتَّبِعُونِي يُحۡبِبۡكُمُ ٱللَّهُ

Say, ‘If you love Allah, follow me: then will Allah love you

إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيۡهِ رَٰجِعُونَ

‘Surely, to Allah we belong and to Him shall we return.’

عَطَآءً غَيۡرَ مَجۡذُوذٖ

a gift that shall not be cut off.

مُّفَتَّحَةٗ لَّهُمُ ٱلۡأَبۡوَٰبُ

with their gates thrown open to them

لَا تُفَتَّحُ لَهُمۡ أَبۡوَٰبُ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَلَا يَدۡخُلُونَ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ حَتَّىٰ يَلِجَ ٱلۡجَمَلُ فِي سَمِّ ٱلۡخِيَاطِ ۚ

the gates of the spiritual firmament will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Heaven until a camel goes through the eye of a needle.

أَكۡمَلۡتُ لَكُمۡ دِينَكُمۡ

I perfected your religion for you

تَوَفَّنِي مُسۡلِمٗا وَأَلۡحِقۡنِي بِٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

Let death come to me in a state of submission to Thy will and join me to the righteous.’

رَبَّنَآ أَفۡرِغۡ عَلَيۡنَا صَبۡرٗا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسۡلِمِينَ

Our Lord, pour forth upon us steadfastness and cause us to die resigned unto Thee.’

وَإِن تَعُدُّواْ نِعۡمَتَ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُحۡصُوهَآ ۗ

and if you try to count the favours of Allah, you will not be able to number them.

وَرَسُولًا إِلَىٰ بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَـٰٓءِيلَ أَنِّي قَدۡ جِئۡتُكُم بِـَٔايَةٖ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ أَنِّيٓ أَخۡلُقُ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطِّينِ كَهَيۡـَٔةِ ٱلطَّيۡرِ فَأَنفُخُ فِيهِ فَيَكُونُ طَيۡرَۢا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَأُبۡرِئُ ٱلۡأَكۡمَهَ وَٱلۡأَبۡرَصَ وَأُحۡيِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَأُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا تَأۡكُلُونَ وَمَا تَدَّخِرُونَ فِي بُيُوتِكُمۡ ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ

“And will make him a Messenger to the children of Israel (to say): ‘I come to you with a Sign from your Lord, which is, that I will fashion out for you a creation out of clay after the manner of a bird, then I will breathe into it a new spirit and it will become a soaring being by the command of Allah; and I will heal the night-blind and the leprous, and I will quicken the dead, by the command of Allah; and I will announce to you what you will eat and what you will store up in your houses. Surely, therein is a Sign for you, if you be believers.

وَلَوۡلَا دَفۡعُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلنَّاسَ بَعۡضَهُم بِبَعۡضٖ لَّهُدِّمَتۡ صَوَٰمِعُ وَبِيَعٞ وَصَلَوَٰتٞ وَمَسَٰجِدُ يُذۡكَرُ فِيهَا ٱسۡمُ ٱللَّهِ كَثِيرٗا ۗ وَلَيَنصُرَنَّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَنصُرُهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَقَوِيٌّ عَزِيزٌ

And if Allah did not repel some men by means of others, there would surely have been pulled down cloisters and churches and synagogues and mosques, wherein the name of Allah is oft commemorated. And Allah will surely help one who helps Him. Allah is indeed Powerful, Mighty —

دَاعِيًا إِلَى ٱللَّهِ بِإِذۡنِهِۦ وَسِرَاجٗا مُّنِيرٗا

As a Summoner unto Allah by His command, and as a Lamp that gives bright light.

ٱلَّذِينَ كَانَتۡ أَعۡيُنُهُمۡ فِي غِطَآءٍ عَن ذِكۡرِي وَكَانُواْ لَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ سَمۡعًا

Whose eyes were under a veil so as not to heed My warning, and they could not even hear.

أَحَسِبَ ٱلنَّاسُ أَن يُتۡرَكُوٓاْ أَن يَقُولُوٓاْ ءَامَنَّا وَهُمۡ لَا يُفۡتَنُونَ

Do men think that they will be left alone because they say, ‘We believe,’ and that they will not be tested?

ٱعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحۡيِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ مَوۡتِهَا ۚ

Know that Allah is now quickening the earth after its death.

رَّضِيَ ٱللَّهُ عَنۡهُمۡ وَرَضُواْ عَنۡهُ ۚ

Allah is well pleased with them, and they are well pleased with Him.

وَقَالُواْ لَوۡلَا نُزِّلَ عَلَيۡهِ ءَايَةٞ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ ۚ

And they say, ‘Why has not a Sign been sent down to him from his Lord?’

فَقُولَا لَهُۥ قَوۡلٗا لَّيِّنٗا

“But speak to him a gentle speech

وَإِن جَنَحُواْ لِلسَّلۡمِ فَٱجۡنَحۡ لَهَا

And if they incline towards peace, incline thou also towards it,

لَا تَقُولُواْ لِمَا تَصِفُ أَلۡسِنَتُكُمُ ٱلۡكَذِبَ هَٰذَا حَلَٰلٞ وَهَٰذَا حَرَامٞ

say not — because of the falsehood which your tongues utter — ‘This is lawful, and this is unlawful,’

وَلَا تَنَٰزَعُواْ فَتَفۡشَلُواْ وَتَذۡهَبَ رِيحُكُمۡ ۖ

and dispute not with one another, lest you falter and your power depart from you.

مَا نَنسَخۡ مِنۡ ءَايَةٍ

Whatever Sign We abrogate
