3 said that he was Muslim, and that he was a member of the A ḥ madiyyah Movement in Isl ā m. From that moment we became friends and within a few hours of meeting him, he gave me some literature, which contained some of the writings of Ḥ a ḍ rat Mirz ā Ghul ā m A ḥ mad, Promised Messiah and Mahd ī (peace be on him), and Ḥ a ḍ rat Mirz ā Bash ī r-ud- D ī n Ma ḥ m ū d A ḥ mad, Second Successor to Ḥ a ḍ rat Mirz ā Ghul ā m A ḥ mad, the Promised Messiah (may All ā h be pleased with him). During that year, which was 1947, I continued to read the various literature published by the A ḥ madiyyah Movement in Isl ā m, and from time to time I would attend Isl ā mic classes at the Mosque in Chicago located at 4448 South Wabash. Although, I had not begun saying the five daily obligatory prayers, I continued to read the A ḥ madiyyah literature. In 1948 I moved to New York, where I found myself visiting the Mosque and continued to read Isl ā mic literature published by the A ḥ madiyyah Movement in Isl ā m. Finally, in candor I can say, I believed that, as a result of reading the writings of Ḥ a ḍ rat Mirz ā Ghul ā m A ḥ mad, the Promised Messiah, and Ḥ a ḍ rat Mirz ā Bash ī r-ud-D ī n Ma ḥ m ū d A ḥ mad, Y ū sef Lateef
