Chapter Fourteen— A Paramount Prophecy The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and the blessings of God be upon him) prophesied that the Messiah would appear from amongst the Muslims, in a place east of Damascus, i. e. , India; and that he would certainly break the cross, i. e. , would prove the false- hood of the Christian doctrine concerning the death of Jesus on the cross, the backbone of the present orthodox Christian faith. As Christian readers may not readily perceive the greatness of this prophecy, I would like to elaborate this point for them. Before the advent of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of God be upon him) Jews as well as Christians believed that Jesus died on the cross; the Jews to prove him a false prophet and accursed of God, and the Christians to prove him a person sacrificed by God for the sins of the world, adding that he rose from the dead on the third day, and then, having lived for forty days on earth, ascended to Heaven.
