For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; that ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication. 1 Christ as a Substitute for the Mosaic Law When Paul saw his efforts crowned with success, through the agreement that he should preach to the Gentiles only without requiring from them the fulfilment of the Law, whilst the Jews would be bound to a minute observance of it, he again over- stepped the limits set to his activities and preached the entire abo- lition of the Law not only for the Gentiles, but for the Jews as well, maintaining that faith in the blood of Jesus took its place. Thus he says: The Law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ that we might be justified by faith.
