ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, thou blasphemeth; because I said, I am the son of God. (John 10:34-37). For as much then as we are the offspring of God (Acts 17:29). This makes it quite clear that the expression son of God when applied to Jesus, by himself or by others, meant no more in his case than it means in its application to others in scripture, of which we have set out several instances above. He was son of. God in that sense, but in no wise at all God, the Son, the second person in the Trinity as is now claimed. . It is contended, however, that in the same context Jesus had also said: I and my Father are one (John 10:30) and; the Father is in me, and I in him (John 10:39); and that these affirmations lend support to the claim made on his behalf that he was not merely the son of God in the Biblical idiom, but had a relationship with God which elevated him to the Godhead and made him a partner and an associate of God on an equal footing.
