Jesus as taught people to worship God, the only Lord. When asked ‘Which is the first commandment of all?’ Jesus as replied, ‘The first of all commandments is, ‘Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. ’ The second is, ‘Love your neighbour as you love your- self. ’ There is no other commandment greater than these. ’ 1 As for himself, he always looked upon himself as human. According to the Holy Quran he stated, ‘I come to you with a Sign from your Lord. ’2 It is clear therefore that he was only a Messenger of Allah. The New Testament also confirmed this. Jesus as is reported to have said, ‘I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has commanded me what I must say and speak. ’3 He also says, ‘My doctrine is not mine, but His who sent me. ’4 On another occasion he said, ‘I came down from heaven, not to do not my own will, but the will of Him who sent me. ’5 Thus, it is clear that he regarded himself as a Messenger of God and not God or the literal son of God. 1.
