as 104 Western hemisphere in 1895. This was such a magnificent sign that it was impossible for any person to manufacture or improvise. These prophecies were fulfilled in the lifetime of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as of Qadian, India, who claimed to be the Mahdi and the Promised Messiah, and had founded a community in 1889, five years before the appearance of these heavenly signs. Jesus as also foretold the state of the world at the time of his second advent. He said, ‘Countries will fight each other, king- doms will attack one another. There will be famines and earth- quakes everywhere. ’1 All these signs point to the present age when famines, epidem- ics, plague, and earthquakes are taking place in various parts of the world and the nations are at war with each other. These signs have been manifested which means that the second advent of Jesus as had come about in the person of someone who came in the power and spirit of Jesus as. The Muslims, too, were looking forward to the advent of the Mahdi and the Messiah. There was general agreement among Muslims that the Mahdi would appear at the beginning of the fourteenth century of the Islamic era. This they inferred from a tradition of the Holy Prophet. That century has elapsed. We find that the only successful claimant to the role of Mahdi and Messiah is Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as of Qadian, who claimed that the prophecies predicting the appearance of a divinely inspired teacher, in the latter days, had been fulfilled in his person.
