[ 44 ] Completion of the Metaphorical Mansion Signifies Perfection of Divine Law Our opponents put forth another h ad i th , which, according to them, conclusively debars the advent of any Prophet. Great emphasis is laid on the h ad i th and it is asserted that it debars the coming of any ummat i Nab i [follower Prophet]. The h ad i th runs as follows: Ab u Hurairah ra reports: ‘The Messenger of Allah sa said: ‘The previous Prophets and myself are like a pal- ace exquisitely built except for a missing brick in its wall. People would wonder why such a blemish was not attended to. I am that brick that completed and perfected the edifice of the palace. Another version of the h ad i th says: I am that brick and I am Kh a tamun- Nabiyy i n. (see S a hih al-Bukh ari Kit a bul Man a qib, S a hih al-Muslim Kit a bul-Fa da ’il, At-Tirmidh i Kit a bul Man a qib and Masnad Ahmad bin H anbal, Kanzul- ‘Umm a l Tatimmatul Ikm a l min fa da’ il motafarriqa- t a n. . . ) They have mentioned with great pride that this h ad i th is from S a hih al-Bukh ari , but have very conveniently failed to :. . . . . :.
