H A D R AT M IR Z A GHU L A M AH M AD A S 83 Meaning that, the verities and deep insights of the Quran are revealed only to those who have been purified. These verses prove clearly that in order to understand the Quran such a teacher is needed whom God Almighty has purified with His own Hand. Had there not been the need for a teacher to learn the Quran, there would not have been any such need in the beginning of this period either. It is futile to assert that a teacher was needed in the begin - ning for the resolution of the difficult parts of the Quran, but once those difficulties had been resolved, there is no need for a teacher now. The answer to this is that even matters that have been resolved are in need of further resolution after a time. Apart from this, the Muslim ummah also faces new difficulties in every age; and while it is indeed true that the Quran comprises all knowl - edge, it is not necessary that all its knowledge should have been disclosed in one period alone. On the contrary, as various types of difficulties are faced, so are those types of Quranic knowledge revealed. In accord with the difficulties faced in every age, spiritual teachers, who are the heirs of the Messengers and are invested with their qualities by way of zill, are sent to resolve those diffi - culties. And the Mujaddid whose functions have a strong resem - blance with the official activities of a specific Messenger, bears the name of that Messenger in the estimation of Allah. The need for new teachers arises also because some portions of the teaching of the Holy Quran need to be set out by example and cannot be confined to mere verbal explanation.
