T E S T I MON Y OF T HE HOLY Q U R AN 80 of Allah be on him, like a raging ocean—they also observed God Almighty’s love for him, in the form of extraordinary support and help. Thus they realized that God exists, and their hearts testified aloud that God is with this man. They saw divine won - ders to such an extent and witnessed heavenly Signs to such a degree that they were left with no doubt whatsoever that there does, indeed, exist a Supreme Being whose name is God, who controls everything and for whom nothing is impossible. That is indeed why they exhibited such deeds of devotion and sincerity and made such sacrifices as are not possible for anyone to per - form until all doubts and suspicions have been removed. They saw with their own eyes that the pleasure of that Holy Being lies only in embracing Islam and adopting the obedience of His Noble Messenger s as with heart and soul. After this absolute cer - tainty, the kind of obedience that they exhibited and the feats they performed and the manner in which they laid down their lives at the feet of their holy guide, were matters that were not possible for anyone who had not witnessed the blossoming spec - tacle that the Companions witnessed. Such high qualities cannot be developed without these means, and salvation cannot be truly achieved without witnessing such excellences. It is, therefore, necessary that God the Benevolent, who has invited everyone to salvation, should make a similar arrangement in every century so that His creatures should not fail in any age to attain the stages of absolute certainty. To say that the Holy Quran and the a ha d i th alone suffice us, and we do not need the company of the righteous, is itself opposed to the teachings of the Holy Quran, as Allah, the Lord of Glory, says:
