ضمیمه نمبر ۲ Comments on English Translation of THE HOLY QURAN "The publication of this first volume of a new annotated translation of the Quran marks a stage in the accomplishment of a very great enterprise۔It is now some fifteen years since the learned scholars of the Ahmadiyya Community of Qadian, under the inspiring leadership of His Holiness Bashir-ud-Din Mahmud Ahmad, embarked upon an ambitious plan to produce an edition of the text of the Quran, accompanied by a faithful English translation and a full commentary۔This first volume comprises the first nine Suras, together with a long general introduction from the pen of His Holiness, who explains that the commentary is based on the interpretation of the Quran established by the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Movement, his first Successor, and himself, the second Successor۔The translation and commentary may thus be accepted as the authentic voice of the Ahmadiyya Movement۔It is to be completed in two more volumes۔It is no exaggeration to describe this work as a veritable monument of Islamic scholarship۔A formidable list of authorities has been consulted at all stages of the undertaking, and the translators have taken into account the views not only of traditional Arab exegesis but also of European criticism۔The translation is in faultless and dignified English۔The general introduction, in 275 large, closely۔printed pages, comprises a biography of the prophet Muhammad, a history of the compilation of the Quran, and an account of the chief features of the Quranic teachings; it contains incidentally a detailed refutation of views on Islam expressed by non-Muslims, and a 1
