9 Mahmud Ahmad ra, who later became the second suc- cessor of the Promised Messiah, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as. There was a popular belief among the Muslims in those days that Jesus as Christ was alive in the heavens and that he would descend in the latter days. God revealed to Hazrat Ahmad as that Jesus as had died a natural death and that the prophecy about his second advent did not mean that Jesus as himself would come back to this world. He told the world that Jesus as was buried in Kashmir in India. He collected evidence to show that the people of Kashmir were the descendants of Jews who had migrated there in the days of Nebuchadnezzar, and that Jesus as travelled from Palestine to India. He sent a delegation to Kashmir to make a thorough investigation of this mat- ter, on the basis of which Hazrat Ahmad as wrote a book Masih Hindustaan Mein, [ Jesus in India ]. Quite a num- ber of European writers and other researchers have also concluded that the people of Kashmir are the descend- ants of Jews and that Jesus as did travel to that part of the world in search of the lost tribes of Israel.
