61 Companions peeped through the keyhole and saw him stand- ing with sword in hand. They hesitated to open the door. The Holy Prophet saw told them to open the door. Umar came in. The Prophet saw asked him ‘Umar, what brings you here?’ ‘I have come to accept Islam’, said Umar. The Holy Prophet saw and the Companions were much pleased to hear this and all of them said with one voice ‘Allah- o-Akbar’, Allah is the Greatest. The news spread throughout Makkah. It was a severe blow to the enemies of Islam, as Umar was a very brave and influential man in Makkah. The Muslims up to that time used to say their Prayers secretly behind closed doors. Now as Umar was one of them, they decided to say their Prayers openly. Umar had done so much for Islam, that after the death of the first Khalifah, Abu Bakr, he was chosen as Khalifah by the Muslims.
