We now present some excerpts from the writings of Muslim saints. In the light of the Quran and the Hadith, Hadrat Sayyed ‘Abdul Kar i m Jil a n i rta explains the status of the Imam Mahdi as follows: It refers to such a person who will acquire the station of Muhammad ( Muq a m-e-Muhammad i ) and who will be perfectly balanced in attaining excellence in all perfec- tion. ( Ins a n-e-K a mil , Sayyed ‘Abdul Kar i m bin Ibrah i m J i l a n i , translated by Fadl Miran, p. 401, printed at Naf i s Academy, Karachi, 1980) The renowned Shi‘ah scholar of the eleventh century, Allamah B a qir Majlisi, writes that Imam B a qir rta has said: ْلَ. فَھَا اَنَا ذَا ي ِ ْم َ وَاِسْمٰع ي ِ ه َنْظُر َ اِلٰی اِبْرَا ي ْ َا مَعْشَر َ الْخَلَئِقِ. . . اَل َ وَمَن ْ اَرَاد َ اَن ي ُ َقُوْل ي ُوشَعْ. ي َ ُوْشَع ْ فَھَا اَنَا ذَا مُوْسٰی و ي َ َّنْظُر َ اِلٰی مُوْسٰی و ي ْ ْل ُ اَل َ وَمَن ْ اَرَاد َ اَن ي ِ ْم ُ وَاِسمٰع ي ِ ه َ اِبْرَا َنْظُر َ اِلٰی عِیْسٰی وَشَمْعُوْن َ فَھَا اَنَا ذَا عِیْسٰی وَشَمْعُوْن َ اَل َ وَمَن ْ اَرَاد ي ْ ُ اَل َ وَمَن ْ اَرَاد َ اَن ْر ي ْہِمَا فَھَا اَنَا ذَا مُحَمَّد ٌ ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص وَّاَمِ ي ِ عَلَ هللا ُ ْن َ صَلَوَات ي ِ ْر ِ الْمُؤْمِن ي ِ َّنْظُر َ اِلٰی مُحَمَّد ٍ وَّاَم ي ْ اَن. م ل َ عليه الس ْن ي ِ الْمُؤْمِن [When the Imam Mahdi appears] he will announce to the world: O People! If you want to see Abraham and Ishmael then know for certain that I am Abraham and Ishmael. And if you want to see Moses and Joshua, then know that
