If we carefully study the later period of the Abbasia Khilafat we find that the units subordinate to it were either Iranian, or such as followed the Iranian pattern wherein various chiefs had, for generations, been influenced by the Iranian concepts; therefore inspite of being themselves more powerful than the centre they continued to owe allegiance to it. . Basis of the Babylonian Civilization:. Mathematics and Astronomy. The basis of the Babylonian civilization was mathematics and astronomy. Its founders believed that God had created the sun, the moon and the stars, with an order in nature; and that progress was possible by copying this order in human affairs. They concentrated, therefore, on efforts to fathom the mysteries of the solar system, on following it to the largest possible extent, and on benefitting by it. .
