Part II – My Life as a Muslim 65 AUGUST 9, 1950 TRIP TO SINDH Hazrat S a hib had a serious attack of gout. He postponed some dinner engagements because he was unable to walk. He could not walk away from his bed. This attack started 8/6/1950, three days before our trip started. I inquired from the acting Private Secretary, Sheikh Mubarak Ahmad (M i a n Muhammad Y u suf went to Karachi to perform the H ajj) about the condition of Hazrat S a hib’s health. He replied that he had no new orders and this meant that the trip to Sindh was still in the plan. On 8/9/1950 all the baggage was packed and ready to go. The Quetta Jam ā ‘at was waiting for Hazrat S a hib to emerge from his house. Arriving to the station by car, Hazrat S a hib was walking with two sticks and different members were helping him walk the distance from the car to the train. They had pulled the car right up to the train platform so that he would not have much distance to board the train. Hazrat S a hib’s family arrived in another car and the Hazrat was already sitting in the compartment of the train and could be seen in the window. The train platform was full of people trying to catch a glimpse of the Hazrat and shake his hand. The Hazrat asked the Khudd ā m to make a single file line so that people could shake his hand from the window. The people did not know how much he was suffering, except those in his close circle. We met Bajwah s a hib, the ex-Imam of the London Mosque, who had just arrived from England after an interview with Hazrat Khal ī fat-ul-Mas ī h. He said that he would be coming to Karachi, then from Karachi to Lahore, and then to Rabwah if God so willed.
