103 that Muslim men are permitted to beat their wives whenever they please. The Holy Qur’an says: ” …And as for those on whose part you fear disobedience, admonish them, and keep away from their beds and chastise them. ” (4:35 ) This verse means that if a wife is seriously disobedient to her husband, he should try and convince her of her fault. If that fails, he should cease to have conjugal relations with her (limited to a period of four months). Only in very extreme circumstance s is he allowed to chastise her. Even then, according to the hadith , he may not injure her in any way.
