CHAPTER 4 A perfect servant of the Almighty God who discharged his obligations 84 to God Almighty and he liked to be in a state of fast at that time. 53 He used to fast on the ninth day of lunar month of Dhil H ijjah. 54 Generally, he would come home and enquire if there was anything to eat. If there was nothing in the house, he would say, "Ok let us fast today. " 55 Sometimes he would keep the fast of S aum-e-Wa sa l, meaning fasting continually for few days and not eating anything in those days. He forbade his Companions from it, saying, "God Himself nourishes me. " 56 Another important worship of Rama da n is I‘tik a f. Before the commissioning of prophethood he loved the solitude of the cave of H ir a ’ and remembrance of All a h. Afterwards he used to sit for I‘tik a f in Rama da n. He would sit for I‘tik a f during the middle ten days and the last ten days of the month of fasting. 57 During this time he would pray a great deal. Hadrat ‘ A ’ishah ra relates that he would summon his strength and made his nights alive with worship. He would wake up his family members for worship. The effort that he put in worship during these days was not seen at other times. 58 The pinnacle of his worship was seen at H ajj.
