" 23 She also said, "He used to mend his clothes, repair his shoes and fix the water bucket. 24 If the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa returned home late, he would not wake anyone and drank milk or ate his food by himself. 25 Justice amongst Wives The Holy Prophet Muhammad sa was always mindful of discharging his obligations to his wives with absolute justice. He would draw lots for deciding the choice of the wife, who would accompany him in expedition and take only that wife with him who had won the lot. 26 The verse " ُ ْ ﺗ ِْ ﺮ َ ْ ﻣ َﻦ َ ﺗ ُ ﺸ ِﺂء ْ ﻣ ُ ﻨ َّ ﻬ َﻦ ُ و ِ ﺗ ْ ﺌْﻮ ِی َ ا ْ ﻟ َ ﻴ َک ْ ﻣ َﻦ َ ﺗ ُ ﺸ ﺂء " (33:52) gave him the choice of delaying the turn of a wife and choosing another one to stay with, yet he did not exercise this choice even once in his life time and did not alter the regular turns without reason. Hadrat ‘ A ’ishah ra sometimes used to comment lovingly that if she had that choice, she would use it for staying only with him. 27 Justice amongst wives was so important for the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa that during his last illness, when his nursing care had priority above his discharge of family duties, even at that time he followed the system of turns in staying with different wives.
