In connection with the method of treatment of disease, by means of 'dam', meaning 'breathing', as it is usually called, it is also to be remembered, that it is reliably on record as having been resorted to in some cases by the Holy Prophet Muhammad and the Promised Messiah. But it is a method that should not be used too frequently%3B for otherwise it would tend, in unworthy hands, to degenerate into a magic formula, and a kind of superstitious belief, since any carelessness in this behalf is likely to lead to various sorts of undesirable innovations. The better, and the safer way, would be to adopt the method for prayer which is the widely known and established way, in the light of the Holy Quran; and in circumstances which should give rise to an impulse to try the method of 'dam', only some really righteous and pious person should be approached for the purpose. As has been duly cautioned by the Promised Messiah himself, there is danger, otherwise, that, instead of yielding any real blessing, it should end in opening the way for injurious views and practices. 45
