23 َّو ْمِهِلْوَق اَّنِا اَنْلَتَق َحْيِسَمْلا ىَسْيِع َنْبا َمَيْرَم و ْمِهِرْفُكِب َو ْمِهِلْوَق ىٰلَع َمَيْرَم اًناَتْهُب اًمْيِظَع۰۰ۙ 1 Surah an-Nisa’, Part 6 َو اَم ُهْوُلَتَق َو اَم ُهْوُبَلَص َو ْنِكٰل َهِّبُش ْمُهَل‑— َلْوُسَر ِهّٰللاۚ This verse refutes both the allegations. The implication of the verse in a nutshell is that neither was ‘ I s a born illegitimately, nor did he die on the cross; rather, it was believed mistakenly that he had died [on the cross]. Hence, he was an elect of God and was raised to God like other Prophets. Now, where do those maulaw i s stand who hold that ‘ I s a has ascended physically to Heaven? The whole controversy as stated here was regarding the spiritual sta - tion held by his soul. The body was never a part of the discussion. In short, the Holy Quran has declared Hadrat Mas ih to be true. However, it is sad that one has to admit that the Jewish alle - gations against his prophecies are so strong that they cannot be refuted in any way. It is solely on the basis of the Holy Quran that we believe in him and do so with sincerity of heart. Otherwise, we have no argument in favour of his Prophethood. The Christians fret about his divinity, while there is hardly any evidence to estab - lish even his Prophethood. Alas, before whom shall I lament the fact that three prophecies of Hadrat ‘ I s a (peace be on him) clearly turned out to be false? Who is there on earth today to help solve this riddle? As far as I am concerned, I can only bemoan those who, when it comes to my situation, are declaring the truth to be a lie. Indeed, 1. And because of their disbelief and their uttering against Mary a griev - ous calumny, and their saying, ‘We did kill the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah;’ whereas they slew him not, nor killed him by crucifixion, but he was made to appear to them like one cruci - fied ( S u rah an-Nis a ’, 4:157–158).
