The Message of Islam — Page vii

Preface The religion of Islam remains clouded in suspicion, fear and mys- tery when viewed through the lens of the West. This mispercep- tion is further exacerbated by the political strife seen through- out the Muslim world and the way in which the Western media exploits it. This booklet presents a transparent and refreshing insight to the powerful and peaceful spirituality behind Islam’s message within the context of its historical origin. It is authored by Sir Muhammad Zafrulla Khan, a distinguished scholar who lived up to these very ideals by dedicating his life to the service of human- ity through esteemed institutions such as the United Nations and the International Court of Justice at the Hague. Several individuals have helped us in preparing this edition, in particular, Ata-ul-Aziz and Amatulhaee Mirza. We have added the references of the Holy Quran mentioning chapter and verse numbers, e. g. , Surah al-Jumu‘ah, 62:4. Salutations are recited out of respect when mentioning the names of Prophets and holy personages. These salutations have been abbreviated and inserted into the text where applicable.
