Malfuzat - English translation of Urdu Volume 10 48 The Duty of a Believer Thereafter, God has taught the prayer: 1 َطاَرِص َنْيِذَّلا َتْمَعْنَا ْمِهْيَلَع اَنِدْهِا َطاَرِّصلا َمْيِقَتْسُمْلا۰۰ۙ َطاَرِص َنْيِذَّلا َتْمَعْنَا ْمِهْيَلَع اَنِدْهِا َطاَرِّصلا َمْيِقَتْسُمْلا۰۰ۙ Meaning that: ‘O God! You are َ ْن ی ِ الْعٰلَم ُّ رَب َ ْن ی ِ الْعٰلَم ُّ رَب [ Rabbul-alamin —Lord of all the worlds], ْ حْـمٰن َّ اَلر ْ حْـمٰن َّ اَلر [ ar-Rahman —the Most Gracious], حِیْم َّ اَلر حِیْم َّ اَلر [ ar-Rahim —the Most Merciful], and ِ مَالِك ِ یَوْم ِ الدِّیْن ِ مَالِك ِ یَوْم ِ الدِّیْن [ Maliki- Yaumid-Din —Master of the Day of Judgement]. Show us that path which is the path of those people whom You blessed lim- itlessly and whom were bestowed great rewards and honours [by You]. ’ A believer should not only verbally acknowledge the God who possesses the previously mentioned four attributes, but he should make his life demonstrate that he believes God alone— not Person X or Y—to be his Rabb [Lord]. He should have the conviction that indeed it is God alone who rewards and punishes one’s actions and who is well aware of the most secret and hidden sins. 2 Significance of One’s Practical State Beware! Mere lip service means nothing. The practical condi- tion needs to be rectified. It is not possible for one, who truly believes God to be his Rabb [Lord] and ِ مَالِك ِ یَوْم ِ الدِّیْن ِ مَالِك ِ یَوْم ِ الدِّیْن [ Maliki- Yaumid-Din ], to commit theft, debauchery, gambling, or other detestable vices, as he knows that all these things will ruin him and it is a brazen disobedience of the commandment of God 1.
