I view this charade of theirs with absolute astonishment because the life or death of Jesus is, in the first place, not the kind of doctrine that is a condition for entering Islam. Hindus or Christians become Muslims here as well, but tell me whether you make them affirm this in addition to saying: َ ْرِه ِ و ی َ ُتُبِہ ٖ و َ رُسُلِہ ٖ و َ الْقَدْر ِ خ ك َ اٰمَنْت ُ بِاهلل ِ وَمَلٰئِكَتِہ ٖ و َ ْرِه ِ و ی َ ُتُبِہ ٖ و َ رُسُلِہ ٖ و َ الْقَدْر ِ خ ك َ ِاٰمَنْت ُ بِاهلل ِ وَمَلٰئِكَتِہ ٖ و و َ الْبَعْث ِ بَعْد َ الْمَوْت ی َ ِشَرِّه ِ مِن َ هللا ِ تَعَال و َ الْبَعْث ِ بَعْد َ الْمَوْت ی َ شَرِّه ِ مِن َ هللا ِ تَعَال [‘I believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His Messengers, Divine providence regarding good and evil, and the Resurrection after death’]. When this tenet [of the life or death of Jesus] does not form part of the Islamic dogma, then why was such harsh treatment meted out to me for proclaiming the death of the Messiah to the extent that I am a k a fir [disbeliever], I am a dajj a l [deceiver], we are forbidden burial in a Muslim cemetery, it is permissible to loot our property, and it is justifiable to take our womenfolk into your homes without marriage? Killing them is a meritori- ous deed, and so on and so forth. There was a time when these very maulaw i s would raise a clamour that if there were 99 rea- sons to call someone a k a fir and only one reason to call him a Muslim, even then, he should not be declared a k a fir ; he should still be called a Muslim. But what has happened now? Have I become more insig- nificant than even this? Do my Jam a ‘at members and I not solemnly pronounce ٗ ُ وَاَشْھَد ُ اَن َّ مُـحَمَّدًا عَبْدُہ ٗ وَرَسُوْلُہ هللا َّ اْل ِ اِلٰہ َ ا َّآ اْل ْ اَشْھَد ُ اَن ٗ ُ وَاَشْھَد ُ اَن َّ مُـحَمَّدًا عَبْدُہ ٗ وَرَسُوْلُہ هللا َّ اْل ِ اِلٰہ َ ا َّآ اْل ْ اَشْھَد ُ اَن [‘I bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship except Allah; and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Servant and His Messenger’]? Do I not perform the obligatory Prayers, or do my followers not pray? Do we not observe the Fasts of Ramadan? Do we not abide by all the articles of faith taught by the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, as the image of Islam? I say truthfully and swear by God Almighty that I and my followers are Muslims. And we have firm faith in the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings
