Malf uza t - English translation of Urdu Volume 8 82 1. These verses are in the Holy Quran concerning Jesus, peace be on him: 2 اَّمَلَف ْيِنَتْيَّفَوَت. اَّمَلَف ْيِنَتْيَّفَوَت. 1 ىٰۤسْيِعٰي ْيِّنِا َكْيِّفَوَتُم َو َكُعِفاَر َّيَلِا. ىٰۤسْيِعٰي ْيِّنِا َكْيِّفَوَتُم َو َكُعِفاَر َّيَلِا. Death is the meaning of these verses as written in Kit a but- Tafs i r of S a hih al-Bukh a r i. It is written there on the authority of Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, that َ ْك َ مُـمِیْتُك ِّی مُتَوَف َ ْك َ مُـمِیْتُك ِّی مُتَوَف [ mutawaff i ka means mum i tuka— ‘I shall give you death’]. Then in support of these verses, the verse 3 اَّمَلَف ْيِنَتْيَّفَوَت اَّمَلَف ْيِنَتْيَّفَوَت is mentioned here. Furthermore, the saying of the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is also mentioned that I will say on the Day of Judgment that these people have become corrupt after my death, as is written: 4 اخل الِـحُ. . . َّ َمَا قَال َ الْعَبْد ُ الص ك الِـحُ. . . َّ َمَا قَال َ الْعَبْد ُ الص ك 2. The second argument in support of the meanings of ْ تَوَفِّی ْ تَوَفِّی — [ tawaff i — ‘death’] given above are the books of the Arabic lex- icons. I have consulted, as far as it was possible, all the pub- lished lexicons such as al-Q a m o os, T a jul-Ur u s, S ir ah , S i hah Johri, Lis a nul-‘Arab, and those books compiled and recently published by Christians in Beirut. From all these books, I have come to know that the Arab idiom is such that when God Almighty is the subject [ فَاعِل فَاعِل — f a ‘il ] in a sentence, and some known human being is the object [ ٖ مَفْعُوْل ٌ بِہ ٖ مَفْعُوْل ٌ بِہ — maf ‘ u l bih i ], being acted upon, such as ُ زَیْدًا هللا ی َّ تَوَف ُ زَیْدًا هللا ی َّ تَوَف [ tawaffa All a hu Zaidan —Allah caused Zaid to die], then in such a case, there is no meaning 1. O Jesus, I will cause you to die a natural death and will exalt you to Myself ( S u rah A l-e-‘Imr a n, 3:56). [Publisher] 2. Since You did cause me to die ( S u rah al -Ma’ idah, 5:118). [Publisher] 3. Since You did cause me to die ( S u rah al -Ma’ idah, 5:118). [Publisher] 4.
