First, it must be noted that Farhan Khan clearly misrepresents Isl ā m Ahmadiyya when he writes that Ahmad ī Muslims believe that “ seal of the prophets really means best of the prophets. ” As explained earlier, this is not the stance of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jam ā ‘at. “Seal of the prophets” means one who authenticates the truth of past and future prophets. In this sense, the words L ā Nab ī yya Ba‘ad ī mean that there can be no prophet after the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa in opposition to him. When the Holy Prophet sa says that he is the Kh ā tam-un- Nabiyy ī n and no prophet can come after him, he means that he is the Seal of the prophets and no prophet can come after him without the seal of authentication of his prophethood. In other words, no prophet who breaks the seal of his prophethood can come in the future. Only one who follows him in letter and spirit can come as a prophet. To further elaborate his statement, the Holy Prophet sa says that there will be 30 such liars who would break this seal and claim to be independent prophets. Second, let us test Farhan Khan’s understanding and literal interpretation of his above quoted had ī th. Throughout his book, he argues that Kh ā tam-un-Nabiyy ī n means “last prophet” but in the chapter under discussion, he presents the above had ī th 15 Khan, With Love , Page 70
