Then there will be Khil ā fah upon the footsteps of prophethood. 88 This had ī th clearly shows that Khil ā fah was to continue for only a limited period of time immediately after the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa and it was eventually going to be replaced by kingdom. This is exactly how it happened. Hence, when the Holy Prophet sa said that there will be no prophets after him, it was in the sense that there will be no prophets immediately after him. Furthermore, the above had ī th also proves the continuity of prophethood. The Holy Prophet sa declares that eventually a time will come when Khil ā fah will be re-established but it will be upon the footsteps of prophethood. In other words, Khil ā fah cannot be re-established without prophethood preceding it. As a result, this prophecy was fulfilled when Hazrat Mirz ā Ghul ā m Ahmad as was appointed by All ā h as the Promised Messiah as and a prophet, and after him, a system of Khil ā fah was established.
