as ANGER OF MULLAHS 243 Another reason why Ahmad as did not rush into Mub a hala was that he had not yet received any Divine command in the matter. He lived with God and it was a sacred principle of his life not to take any step without His permission. In fact, he wrote to Maulaw i N u r-ud-D i n that he was fully aware of the evil effect of the propaganda carried on by Abdul H aq and Abdur Ra h m a n of Luckhooke (son of Maulaw i Muhammad) but he was waiting for the Divine command in the matter. As the time for Mub a hala had not yet come therefore everybody had to wait. Maulaw i Muhammad Husain of Batala, a great friend of Ahmad as , was also much perturbed. Fat h-e- Islam was being printed at the Ri ad -e-Hind Press, Amritsar, he happened to go there and saw the proofs of it. He wrote a letter on January 31st, 1891, asking whether Ahmad as had really claimed to be the Promised Messiah ( Ish a ‘atus Sunnah , Vol. 12, No. 12). Ahmad as thought it sufficient to write only 'Yes' in answer. Muhammad Husain had asked him to say Yes or No. Ahmad’s as reply is dated February 5th, 1891. It appears that the other mullahs approached Muhammad Husain and instigated him to stand up against Ahmad as.
