ADDRESSES THE A RYA SAM A J as 162 (1887) and, in order to expose his ignorance, pointed out the fallacies in his arguments. For a fuller reply to Pt. Lekhr a m’s writings Ahmad as commissioned his friend Maulaw i N u r-ud-D i n ra , because he was himself engaged on another important work. Maulaw i N u r-ud- D i n ra wrote a crushing reply entitled Ta s d i q Br a h i n-e- Ahmadiyya (1890). Pt. Lekhr a m staggered under the blow. 37 put them in black and white. But in the words of the Editor of Mihr N i mroz , Bajnaur, he is a funny gossipper. The editor wrote this when he met Pt. Lekhr a m. The words are very true. He is very good at manufacturing things. . . . . ' Let me give here a specimen of the A rya reasoning. Pt. Lekhr a m wrote in his book that God has created the world. The N u r Afsh a Ĕ , dated March 2lst, 1888, asked as to how this statement could be true when the A rya Sam a j believed matter and soul to be eternal. To answer this question Pt. Lekhr a m says: 'We do not regard the present universe, viz. the world made of matter, as eternal, because it has had a beginning we have said that God is the Creator because He has created the universe with matter and not out of mere nothing. Non-existence is nothing. But we regard matter as eternal—not the form of the universe made of matter. ' He says further: 'Just as God cannot die and He cannot be born and just as He cannot tell a lie and just as He cannot be two or three or four and just as He cannot be crucified, in the same way He cannot create anything out of nothing. It is a deception. In fact, you are not laughing at Knowledge but at God the Father in so far as you believe Him to be the God of nothing and the Master of non- existence. The husband of a widow or the child of a barren woman is nothing more than non-existence. ' Swami Day a nand and Pt. Lekhr a m assert that Moses as was a fire- worshipper! 37 A petition writer, Shah a bud D i n Chisht i , of Nakodar, Dist. Jullundur, was also moved to write a booklet entitled (Qaisar i Press, Jullundur, 1891) in refutation of Pt. Lekhr a m’s writings.
