Seal of the Prophets - Volume I 46 8 Imām Yaḥyā bin Mu‘īn (185 A. H. – 233 A. H. ) ُ لَیْس َ بِشَئ ٍ كَان َ یُقَلِّب To scholars, Wāqidī holds no significance. He would present distorted Aḥādīth. 9 Imām Shāfi‘ī (150 A. H. – 204 A. H. ) كُتُب ُ الْوَاقِدِی ْ كُلُّھَا ُ َ یَضَع ٌ كَان كِذْب َ الْاَسَانِیْد The books of Wāqidī, in their entirety, are a heap of lies. He would forge false chains of narration on his own accord. 10 Imām Abū Dāwūd Sajistānī (202 A. H. – 275 A. H. ) ٗ لَا اَكْتُب ُ حَدِیْثَه ٗ اِنَّه َ كَان َ یَفْتَعِل ُ الْحَدِیْث In my opinion, the narrations of Wāqidī are not worthy of acceptance. He would forge Aḥādīth on his own accord. 11 Imām Nasaʼī (215 A. H. – 303 A. H. ) َ اَلْوَاقِدِی ْ مِن َ الْكَذَّابِیْن ِ الْمَعْرُوْفِیْن َ بِالْكِذْب Wāqidī was among those people the lies of whom have become conspicuously evident, and known by all. 12 Muḥammad bin Bashsh ā r Bindār (167 A. H. – 252 A. H. ) ُ أیْت ُ اَكْذَب ُ مِنْه ا مَا رَ I have not seen a greater liar than Wāqidī. 13 Imām Nawawī (Died in 672 A. H. ) ْ ضَعِیْف ٌ بِاِتِّفَاقِھِم All research scholars are at a consensus that the narrations of Wāqidī are weak. 14 ‘ Allāmah Dhahabī (Died in 748 A. H. ) ٰ اِسْتَقَر َّ الْاِجْمَاع ُ عَلی ْ وَھْن ِ الْوَاقِدِی All research scholars have unanimously agreed upon the weakness of Wāqidī. 1 1 1 Tahzībut-Tahzīb, By Imām Al-Ḥāfiẓ Shihāb-ud-Dīn Abul-Faḍl Aḥmad bin ‘Alī bin Ḥajar Al-‘Asqalānī, Volume 5, “Muḥammad bin ‘Umar Wāqidul-Wāqidī”, pp. 234-235, Dāru Iḥyā’it-Turāthil-‘Arabī, Beirut, Lebanon, Second Edition (1993)
