KHILAFAT-E-R A SHIDAH 91 should be Maulaw i Muhammad Ali, because he was more than forty years of age at that time and he did not call non-Ahmadis kafir. The Consent of Ninety Percent of the Members of the Jam a ‘at on Khilafat by Election When I read that tract and apprehended the upcoming crisis, I immersed myself in prayers and awoke the others in the room. I informed them of the tract and enjoined them to pray. Thus, all of us prayed and observed a fast. The majority of the Ahmadis of Qadian participated in prayers and observed a fast. In the morning, some people, realizing that Maulaw i Muhammad Ali had not only deceived them, but also had degraded the wills of the Promised Messiah as and Hadrat Khalifatul Masih I ra circulated a paper among people to ascertain the trend of the Jam a ‘at. In that paper, it was asked if the Jam a ‘at wanted to have a similar Khalifah as Hadrat Khalifatul Masih I ra , and if they had pledged the Bai‘at to Hadrat Khalifatul Masih I ra in the position of a Khalifah or merely as a spiritual mentor or an ascetic. We learnt from the signatures of people that more than ninety percent of the Jam a ‘at agreed that there should be a Khalifah and his functions should be the same as Hadrat Khalifatul Masih I ra had.
