19 A PRAYER DUEL In September 1982 he travelled out of Pakistan for the first time as a Khalifah. On 10 September 1982 he inaugurated the Basharat Mosque in Pedro Abad, Spain. This was the first mosque built in Spain after 700 years and it was built by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. In 1983, the following year, Hazrat rta visited the countries in the Far East; namely, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. A PRAYER DUEL The history of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is filled with trials and tribulations which require immense patience and steadfastness. On 26 April 1984, a momentous incident took place in the history of Islam: the dictator of Pakistan, Zia-ul-Haq, issued an anti-Ahmadiyya ordinance that greatly increased the persecution of Ahmadi Muslims. They were harassed and jailed for petty reasons; lawsuits were filed against Ahmadis for even such things as saying the Islamic words of greeting, Assalamo Alaikum and writing Bismillah hir Rahman
