~ 18 ~ Piety Must be a Priority In the selection of a partner for life, piety and righteousness must be given priority over all other qualities. As it is mentioned in the following Ḥ ad ī th, “A woman is married for four things: her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. So, you should marry a religious woman, otherwise you will be a loser. ” (Bukh ā r ī , Kit ā bun-Nik āḥ ) The Holy Prophet Mu ḥ ammad (peace and blessings of All ā h be upon him) has further elucidated on this issue in the following Ḥ ad ī th, “Surely, the whole world is a provision, and there is no greater provision of the world than a pious woman. ” (Ibn M ā jah, Abw ā bun-Nik āḥ ) So, according to the Isl ā mic traditions and saying of the Holy Prophet Mu ḥ ammad (peace and blessings of All ā h be upon him), piety and righteousness top the list of priorities in selecting a partner.
