31 8–Care of Orphans Waleed then got up and said, ‘I am an orphan. My parents died a long time ago. My foster parents looked after me. They were always very kind to me. They brought me up like their own child. I am very grate- ful to Allah and his Messenger Muhammad, the Holy Prophet of Islam, for the concern shown about the care of orphans. Allah says in the Holy Quran, َكَنْوُلَٔـْسَي ِنَع ىٰمٰتَيْلا ١ؕ ْلُق ٌحاَلْصِا ْمُهَّل ٌرْيَخ١ؕ َو ْنِا ْمُهْوُطِلاَخُت ْمُكُناَوْخِاَف١ؕ َو ُهّٰللا ُمَلْعَي َدِسْفُمْلا َنِم ِحِلْصُمْلاَنِم ِحِلْصُمْلاَكَنْوُلَٔـْسَي ِنَع ىٰمٰتَيْلا ١ؕ ْلُق ٌحاَلْصِا ْمُهَّل ٌرْيَخ١ؕ َو ْنِا ْمُهْوُطِلاَخُت ْمُكُناَوْخِاَف١ؕ َو ُهّٰللا ُمَلْعَي َدِسْفُمْلا ‘They ask you concerning the orphans. Say: ‘Promotion of their welfare is an act of great goodness. And if you intermix with them, they are your brethren. And Allah knows the mischief-maker from the reformer. ’ ( S u rah al-Barqarah, 2:221)
