9 The first words revealed to Prophet Muhammad s as were ْاَرْقِا ِمْساِب َكِّبَر ْيِذَّلا َقَلَخ ْاَرْقِا ِمْساِب َكِّبَر ْيِذَّلا َقَلَخ (S u rah al-‘Alaq, 96:2) which means: Convey thou in the name of thy Lord Who created. It took twenty-three years for the entire Quran to be revealed.
