CLOSING SCENE Hadrat Maulw i Nur-ud-D i n ra — Khalifatul Masih I 302 that the Khal i fa has to do tomorrow? The answer is that in addition to spiritual supervision, it is the function of the Khal i fa to keep the community united and to safeguard it against disturbance, and the exercise of this function is not visible that I should give you instances. The Khal i fa has to carry out spiritual training of the community and to maintain discipline. Spiritual training is not a physical activity to which attention can be drawn, nor is there a time appointed for disturbance that it would not occur before a particular date. It is possible that tomorrow something may happen that might require a supervisory hand. So leave alone the question whether there should or should not be a Khal i fa. As there is a difference in doctrine, there will be difference on the choice of a person. We cannot swear allegiance to a person with whom we differ on doctrine. " Sahibz a da Sahib ra : "So far as I know, difference does not extend so far as to be a bar to swearing allegiance to a person on one side or the other. In any case we are prepared to swear allegiance to any one of your group. " Maulaw i Muhammad ‘Al i : "That is difficult. You should reflect further and consult among yourselves and let us meet again tomorrow. "
