The Holy Quran informs us that only that group of people will be victorious in the latter days which will practice patience and exhort others to do likewise. "They exhorted one another to perseverance and exhort one another to mercy" (Chapter Al-Balad Verse 18) So I have decided to present on the behalf of the Jamaal, a charitable donation of ten thousand pounds, although it seems to be a modest drop for the famine relief efforts for the needy African countries. I will make a personal contribution as well; and the Communities in each location can allocate its funds towards this noble cause. The Holy Quran says: "•�• • "' " '"• •• ,,, r,, ,;i� ,. , •. , #'-i �. . :)�_,. , Lo-. !,. ;� (Chapter Al-Baqara: Verse 220) "And they ask thee what they should spend. Say: What you can spare" The word used in the Holy Quran is "A/av" which can also mean that whatever an individual or a community can spare from different expenditure heads be spent on the service of the destitute. A lthough all the assets of the Jamaal are indeed the assets of God and are spent in the service of God, yet this is an additional worthy cause where money can be spent in the service of God. So, I am not establishing a specific fund for this purpose, but I urge you to contribute towards this charitable cause, with the sincerest motivation that God will grant acceptance to your sacrifices in the cause of world peace. Our prayers will be dedicated towards these objectives. Our benevolent funds, according to our capacity, are, for all worthy causes but this charity will be exclusively for the famine-stricken people of Africa. May He eliminate the troubles of the Muslims, and open the eyes of our Muslim brethren who received the virtuous teachings of the Holy 168
