I,1 the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful EIGHTH FRIDAY SERMON JANUARY 11, 1991 CONTRADICTORY ATTITUDE OF THE WESTERN POWERS After reciting the Opening Chapter of the Holy Quran, Al-Fatiha, Hazoor said: AN ESSENTIAL EXPLANATION - ISLAM ALLOWS NO PREJUDICE When the fortress of Khyber fell to the Muslims and thereafter the Holy Prophet of Islam married Hazrat Safia, he spoke to her on a particular topic, on their return journey from the expedition, while she was seated behind him on the same camel. That conversation is recorded in the (Hadith) "Traditions" of the Holy Prophet of Islam. Concerning the expedition of Khyber and the hard-times the Jews had to face when the fortress was being conquered, the Holy Prophet said to her: Safia, I must apologize to you from the bottom of my heart about what I did to your people. But I must also tell you how they treated me earlier, so that you may not remain under the misunderstanding that it was any prejudice or wanton cruelty that prompted me to attack the fortress of Khyber. So the Holy Prophet chronicled the whole gamut of cruelties that the Jewish tribes had committed towards the Muslims from the very beginning. In particular he dwelt upon the saga of Jewish attempts at his own character assassination, personal innuendo he had to face, and the invective hurled at him. The purpose of this conversation with Hazrat Safia was to clear any misunderstanding or doubts about this aspect of the Holy Prophet's personality, before the new bride entered his home. I have delivered several sermons recently, in the context of the Kuwait - Iraq dispute, regarding the treatment being meted out by the Western nations to the Muslims. It has occurred to me on several 135
