214 claimed to be the C aliph of the Holy Prophet sa , no matter how many doubts exist regarding his eligibility, this much is c lear that he has accepted to be the spiritual son of the Holy Prophet sa. Then the progeny of the same Ha z rat Mua ’ v ia ra maintained the government of Islam for eleven hundred years in Spain. This government was so glorious that there was a time when the whole of Europe was in awe of it. Thus , Ha z rat Mua ’ v ia ra not only served Islam himself , but Islam gained glory through his progeny as well. Once the Holy Prophet sa came home to see his wife , Um m - e - Habiba ra , who was the daughter of Abu Sufyān – with her brother, Ha z rat Mua ’ via ’s ra head o n her lap and she was showing him [sisterly] affection. When she saw the Holy Prophet sa , she felt shy and separated from Ha z rat Mua ’ via ra. The Holy Prophet sa said, “Um m - e - Habiba h ra , were you showing your affection to Mua ’ via ra ?” She said, “Yes, Holy Prophet sa , Mua ’ via is my brother. ” The Holy Prophet sa said, “Whosoever is dear to you is dear to me. ” In one way , the Holy Prophet sa declared Ha z rat Mua ’ via ra to be his son. This is what became of one of the enem ies of Islam. In other words, Abu Sufyān who always used to fight against the Holy Prophet sa , his daughter m arried the Holy Prophet sa , and in a certain sense his son was declared by the Holy Prophet sa to be his own son. Then he also accepted the Holy Prophet sa and greatly served Islam not only during the lifetime of the Holy Prophet sa , but also afterwards. Then there was Abu Jahl , a vehement enemy of the Holy Prophet sa. What happened to him was that his own children w ished to marry their sister to Ha z rat ‘Ali ra , but the Holy Prophet sa did not allow this. He said , “There is no doubt that Islam permits a second marriage , but I d o not like for the daughter of the prophet of God to join with the daughter of the enemy of God in the same house. I will not stand in the way of the second marriage. Ha z rat ‘Ali ra ha s the right to divorce my daughter and marry again or give up the idea of marrying Abu Jahl ’s daughter. ” Anyhow, Abu Jahl was the Holy Prophet’s sa worst enemy and his son Ikr i mah ra (who later became a Muslim) was so staunch in his oppo s ition that when M ecca was conquered , he could not bear the fact that the Holy Prophet sa should be the ruler and to be c onsidered his sa subject, so he fled to Abyssinia.
