Fazle Umar 12 delight of the heart, high ranking, noble; a manifestation of the First and the Last, a manifestation of the True and the High; as if Allah has descended from heaven. His advent will be greatly blessed and will be a source of the manifes- tation of Divine Majesty. Behold a light cometh, a light anointed by God with the perfume of His Pleasure. He will pour His spirit upon him and he will be sheltered under the shadow of God. He will grow rapidly in stature and will be the means of procuring the release of those held in bondage. His fame will spread to the ends of the earth and people will be blessed through him. He will then be raised to his spiritual station in heaven. This is a matter decreed…’” 2 In an announcement some six weeks before the birth of this son, the Promised Messiah [as] declared that he had been ‘given intimation of a son who was to be born to him and he saw his name written on a wall as Mahmud’ (Green Announcement, 1 December 1888: Taryaqul Qulub, pg. 40). Hence, within the period of nine years specified by the Promised Messiah [as] for the fulfilment of the prophecy, this Bashir finally made his blessed appearance on 12 January 1889. He was named Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad. His birth was made known the same day by means of a leaflet. It was also written therein that he had not yet been informed as to whether this boy was the one who was to be the Promised Son. Later on, however, the Promised Messiah [as] definitively declared in his books, Siraje Munir, Taryaqul Qulub, Nuzule Masih, that he was the Promised Son. Aside from the birth of the son within nine years of 20 February 1886, the real test of its fulfilment was to be the possession of such distinctive characteristics and also the accomplishment of such outstanding achievements as had been prophesied
