156 Chapter 101 Al-Q a ri‘ah 6 (Revealed before Hijrah) Date of Revelation and Context The S u rah was revealed early at Mecca. All Commentators of the Qur’ a n agree on this point. Noldeke and Muir, too, subscribe to this view. Like S u rah Az-Zilz a l it primarily gives a brief but lucid description of the tremendous convulsions and catastrophic upheavals that would shake the foundations of the world in the Latter Days; the immediately preceding S u rah having dealt with the great fight that the Companions of the Holy Prophet had put up against the forces of darkness. The S u rah equally may apply to the Day of Judgment greater than which there could be no calamity for disbelievers.
