vii Translator’s Note is an English translation of Tau dih -e-Mar a m (Urdu), a companion volume of the two treatises Fat- h e-Isl a m and Iz a la-e-Auh a m, written in 1891 by Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, the Promised Messiah and Mahd i as , Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jam a ‘at. The book contains a detailed refutation of the conventional Muslim and Christian belief that Jesus was raised to the heavens alive and shall return in his material body some- time in the latter days. The Promised Messiah as has also discussed at length such abstruse and subtle themes as the nature of Angels, their relationship with God and man, and how they function as intermediaries and carry out divine commands. Tau dih -e-Mar a m was first translated into English by Professor Q adi Muhammad Aslam, of blessed memory, and was published in 1972. The present version is a com- pletely new translation. The name of Muhammad sa , the Holy Prophet of Isl a m, has been followed by the symbol sa , which is an abbrevia- tion for the salutation 'may peace and blessings of All a h be upon him. ' The names of other prophets and messengers are followed by the symbol as , an abbreviation for 'on whom be peace. ' The actual salutations have not generally been set
