Ê ø  » Ø º is, as stated above, the excess above moderateness in respect of a property or quantity or of an acquisition and this is of two kinds such as is commended as the Ê ø  » Ø º of knowledge or science, and such as is discommended as the Ê ø  » Ø º of anger at that whereas it is not necessary; but Ê ø  » Ø º is more used in relation to that which is commended and the plural Ê ö  ö ç » Ù º in relation to that which is discommended. Ê ø  $ × ø ä ü Â ø ×F o Æ ø n»  ô å´ : He attributes to him an excellence distinguishing him from or above others or another; he judged him to be more excellent than another or others, or he made him to be so. æ ø ] Ö × # ä ö Ê ø  $ Ø ø eø Ã »  ø Ó ö Ü » Â ø ×F o eø Ã »  õ : And God has made some of you to excel some others (in ability, wealth, rank, station, goodness, power which are excellences that may be acquired) (16:72). Ê ø  $ × ø ä ü eô ä´ (syn. ì ø  $ ä ü ) : He distinguished him particularly by it i. e. a thing. Ê øø  $ Ø ø Ê ô o ] Ö» Ã ø _ ø ^ ð ô : He gave to some more than to others. iø Ë ø  $ Ø ø Â ø × ø n» ä ô : He thought himself to be superior to him in or laid claim to excellence; he sought to have superiority over him; he gave him or favoured him ( eô  ø o » ð õ ) with a thing. mö  ô m»  ö ]ø á » m $ jø Ë ø  $ Ø ø Â ø × ø n» Ó ö Ü » : He seeks to have or acquire superiority over you (23: 25). iø Ë »  ô n» Ø º inf. noun from.
