Assal a mu ‘alaikum wa ra h matullahi wa barak a tuh u The boy reached home on July 31 and immediately I started trying to convince him to assist us in the matter. At first, he refused vehemently to give us the books and said that the books belonged to Ja‘far Zattly, who recognizes the handwriting of the late Maulav i Muhammad H asan and who had told the boy strictly that the books must be taken at once to Zattly in Lahore. However, after employing many tactics and enticements, I convinced him. Eventually, he settled for a payment of six rupees. Having transferred the notes on another copy of I‘j a zul-Mas ih , we are sending with the bearer of this letter, the original book which has the notes of late Maulav i [Muhammad H asan] in his own handwriting. Please send a note for the receipt of the book with the bearer of the letter and, if possible, give him six rupees also, so that we can pay the boy and there is no difficulty in acquiring the other book, Shams-e-B a zighah. As soon as you will send us a copy of the book Shams-e-B a zighah , we will immediately send you the original book containing Maulav i ’s handwritten notes.
