i‘j a zul-Mas ih —A Miracle of the Promised Messiah as In his book, Anj a m-e- A tham , published in 1896, the Promised Messiah as declared that he would no longer take part in any more debates or disputations because of his opponents’ mischief, their attempts to create unrest during these gatherings, and for other legal reasons. In the same book, he also put forward a method to distinguish and discriminate between truth and falsehood, which is that one should ask for God’s guidance through prayers. Amongst the ascetics, leaders of religious orders and their successors that he invited to pray was a well known religious leader of the Chishtiyah sufi sect, P i r Meher ‘Al i Sh a h 2 (b. 1837, d. May 5, 1937) of Golrha (District Rawalpindi). In the beginning, the above-mentioned P i r held favourable views and had expressed respect for the Promised Messiah as. Around 1896 or 1897, when one of his devotees, B a b u Feroz ‘Al i, Station Master of Golrha, asked him about the Promised Messiah as , he replied without any hesitation: 2 The term ‘P i r’ refers to a religious leader.
