C ONDITIONS OF B AI ‘ AT AND R ESPONSIBILITIES OF AN A H MAD I 116 I will now present some a ha d i th on this subject. Hadrat ‘Ub a dah Bin A s - Sa mit ra narrates, ‘We made a solemn pledge at the hand of the Messenger of Allah on the condition that we will pay heed to and obey all his directives whether we like them or not. ’ ( S a hih Al-Bukh ari , Kit ab ul-A hka m, Bab u K aifa Y u bay i‘u l- Im a mun-N a s) ‘Abdur-Ra h m a n Bin ‘Amr As-Salam i and Hadrat H ujr Bin H ujr said, ‘We went to ‘Irb ad Bin S a riyah ra who said, “One day the Apostle of Allah led us in the morning Prayer, then gave us a very effective and eloquent exhortation at which the eyes shed tears and the hearts became fearful. A man among the audience said, ‘O Apostle of Allah! It seems as if it were a farewell exhortation! So, what injunction do you give us?’ He then said, ‘I enjoin you to fear Allah, hear and obey even if your Am i r [Leader] be an Abyssinian slave, for a time is coming that those of you who live after me will see great disagreement. You must then follow my rightly guided Khulaf a ’ [caliphs] and me. Stick to it and hold fast to it. You have to avoid innovations in the religion, for every innovations introduced in the name of religion is an undesirable one, and every innovation is a manifest error. ’” ( Sunan-ut-Tirmadh i , Kit a bul ‘Ilmi B a bu m a Ja ’a Fil-Akhdhi Bis Sunnah. Also Sunano Ab i D a w u d , Kit ab- us - Sunnati , Bab u Luz u mis Sunnah) We, the Ahmad i s who claim complete obedience to the Holy Prophet sa and declare our absolute faith, should always keep this advice and the h ad i th in our minds. Hadrat Anas ra narrates that the Holy Prophet sa said, ‘Whoever possesses the following three qualities will taste the sweet
