The commentary of al-Qa si dah 155 This means that the Holy Prophet sa has been sent to an unlettered people and he teaches them signs and purifies them. In this verse the Holy Prophet sa has been mentioned as one who makes others zak i , i. e. , one who transforms others into the likeness of Jesus Christ. I told him that he was under the wrong impression that according to the Holy Qur’ a n Jesus as is superior to all prophets including the Holy Prophet sa ; and it should be clear to him that according to this verse the status of the Holy Prophet sa is that of a teacher and of Jesus as as a pupil. Jesus as is referred to as a zak i and the Holy Prophet sa as a muzakk i , meaning the one who makes others zak i. Upon my questioning him further, he presented another verse in which he said the Holy Qur’ a n has mentioned about the purity of the ancestors of Jesus Christ. His point was that there is no mention of the ancestry of Muhammad sa at all. I asked him: ‘Do you consider the Qur’ a n to be the word of God or of Muhammad sa ?’ He answered: ‘Of Muhammad sa. ’ So I responded: ‘Then who do you think purified the name of the ancestors of Jesus? Even by this logic the Holy Prophet sa is established as a muzakk i which is the status of the teacher. ’ Then I explained to him that his understanding of this verse is incorrect. The Holy Qur’ a n is not a book of family trees where the forefathers of all prophets had to be mentioned. The mention of the forefathers of Jesus as was for the reason that his ancestors were blemished. Even in the Gospels, in the book of Matthew, chapter 1, verses 3 and 6, where the family tree of Jesus has been mentioned, two of his grandmothers have been mentioned as committing
