BRI G HT LI G HTS OF THE AHMADIYYA MO VEMENT THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE TEACHINGS OF ISLAM How Was This Book Written (Farzana Quader) 17 Dear Children, the Promised Messiah, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (peace be upon him), wrote many books. Some of these are: Braheen-i-Ahmadiyya, Victory of Islam, Favors of the Benificent, and Jesus in India. Some of these books have wonderful stories attached to them. Have you heard any of them? One such book is The Philosophy of the Teachings of Islam. This is one of the most important books written by the Promised Messiah. However, this was not written as a book at first, but as a very long speech. He had written it as a long paper to be read out at a meeting of a group of religious leaders. A Hindu religious leader named Swami Shugan Chandra had arranged a Conference of Great Religions. Do you know the word conference? Well, it is a meeting where all the people taking part in it read out their papers and talk about them. This meeting may go on for two or three days or even longer. This conference was arranged to be held in the Islamia College of Lahore (it was in India then) on the 26th, 27th and 28th of December, 1896. Learned men belong- ing to different religions were all invited. Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was invited to read a paper on Islam in this conference. However, as he began writing it he had a severe attack of diarrhea. He did manage to complete the paper but was not able to attend the conference. So he selected one of his devoted and loyal followers, Maulvi Abdul Karim Sahib of Sialkot (at that time in India) to read out his paper.
