117 also becomes very obvious. The truth is that a Jam a ‘at can never be established unless it pays due attention to offering prayers in congregation. That is why you should strive as hard as possible to make it incumbent upon yourselves to offer prayers in congregation. Should someone fail to find a companion to accompany him for congregation, he can arrange for congregation at home leading the prayers while his wife and children stand behind him. This will at least keep the habit of offering prayers in congregation alive. A day will come that God will make that single person into a full-fledged Jam a ‘at. May Allah enable you all to fulfil your obligation in this regard. Zakat Zakat is another important issue. People have failed to fully grasp the ideology behind it. God has commanded this after the Prayer. Hadrat Abu Bakr ra said, ‘I will deal with those who do not pay Zakat like the Holy Prophet sa dealt with the disbelievers. I will enslave their men and take their women as servants. ’ After the demise of the Holy Prophet sa , the whole of Arabia had turned apostate with the exception of only three cities; namely, Makkah, Madinah, and another one. At that time, Hadrat Umar ra submitted to Hadrat Abu Bakr ra that in view of the riots that had broken throughout the country the expedition which was supposed to leave for Syria should be halted.
